About Me
I am a family nurse practitioner with a broad and evolving background spanning acute and primary care, community health, addiction medicine, health coaching, and healthcare innovation. My path has taken me through teaching hospitals, community clinics, telehealth startups, and wellness settings, where I've worked with people of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances.
My years as a health coach taught me to look beyond a behavior to understand the person behind it: what motivates them, their beliefs and values, and what may be standing in their way. My clinical training deepened that perspective by teaching me to pair that understanding with a strong foundation in disease, diagnostic reasoning, and evidence-based care.
Meaningful care is not simply about treating disease (shoutout to Patch Adams!), but about understanding the person within the context of their life and working collaboratively toward a healthier, more sustainable future. One paradigm from my early training stayed with me: unhealthy, dysfunctional, or destructive habits often began because the brain believed they served a protective or positive purpose. This perspective has shaped the way I approach people and their behaviors. It allows me to hold space for individuals in a way that helps them feel accepted as they are right now. Compassion and clinical rigor are not opposing forces; good care requires both.
Moving between very different environments has made me comfortable with the unfamiliar. I enjoy the complexity of disparate pieces, the questions they raise, and following the thread that connects them. To me, individualized care begins there: in the curiosity to understand the whole picture.
I have carried a simple story with me since I was young, and it has stayed with me throughout my time in healthcare: a girl walking along a beach after a storm, returning stranded starfish to the ocean one by one. When told she could not save them all, she continued, knowing that she could make a difference for the one in her hands. I know I cannot change every outcome or solve every problem, but I believe there is profound value in the difference we can make for the person in front of us. Sometimes that difference is a diagnosis or treatment options. Sometimes it is education, advocacy, or simply creating an environment where someone feels seen.
My path has wandered, but it was never random. Each experience has given me another lens on what it means to care for people.
